Merry Christmas Letter 2012

To our Dear Friends and Family,                                         December 2012

Merry Merry Christmas Loved Ones! What a special time of year we get to enjoy each Christmas season. I love spending this wonderful time with my family and friends. To help you get in the Christmas spirit and feel like you're right here celebrating with us here's a few of my favorite things about Christmas..

Enjoying: the hustle and bustle of decorating the house and shopping for gifts, the quiet moments next to the Christmas tree late at night after my family is sleeping, the chance to say “Merry Christmas!” to everybody I see, the planning and preparing to make Christmas Eve and Christmas day even better than the ones before, worshiping in church and remembering the true reason of the season, singing and listening to Christmas music- from Nat King Cole to the Jackson 5 and of course our sacred hymns of praise, making cookies and treats and devouring all the goodies in sight, spending extra time with loved ones who live far away, hiding gifts in secret spots promising that if said gifts are found they will promptly be returned to the stores, proclaiming my belief in Santa and the magic of believing, reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the celebration of our Savior's birth, the family parties and late night outings with friends, snow- if we're lucky and Elsie gets her wish, and of course giving and receiving Christmas cards and presents-everybody loves to feel loved! Here's a little bit of what we've been up to.

Elsie- age 10 but turning 11 three days after Christmas has definitely become quite sure of her awesome self. This is not an exaggeration....she loves saying, “Elsie is awesome” and writing it on anything she can. Those foggy winter windows in the van have it written all over them. She's in 5th grade and king of her elementary school. She loves her class and circle of friends, being with the same classmates for 3 years now has let her become outgoing and friendly, definitely not shy. Soccer and all sports are still a passion for her. She started piano last January and is constantly playing it....to the point of annoyance at times. :) Creating stories and games is a favorite of Els'. Did I mention her book she made for Grandma when we were down there? It's called “What is awesome?” She's an amazing helper with chores and caring for her 2 little cousins, and even changes messy diapers when necessary. Early riser and super conscientious, feisty and kind too, that's our Elsie girl.

Lorenzo aka Ren- age 12. He's in 7th grade now! That's the 2nd year in Middle School here and he loves it. No longer the youngest in school, he knows what's going on in Middle School land. He's our amazing trombone player!!! He goes to Jazz band early in the morning twice a week along with playing in the 7th grade band. He loves it! He tried his hand at Basketball this Fall and did great for having never played in a league before. However, his true love is soccer. He hopes to do track in the Spring and definitely soccer next fall. He turned that magic age of 12 in March and received the Aaronic Priesthood. He's now our sweet little deacon and gets to pass the Sacrament each Sunday. I'm amazed at how much he's grown. He's in the Deacon's Quorum and goes on overnight scout camps, even backpacking ones. He gets himself up and going every morning and works hard in school, even though 7th grade is more of a challenge than past grades. He's still very in love with video games and cars, basically anything with wheels.

Matthew is simply amazing. Trying to keep his head above water with work and kids and wife and home. He occasionally takes time to have a break with video games, playing his horn, going to the movies. His favorite hobby is smooching his wife though... speaking of his crazy wife, she thought this was the summer to buy a new house. Right before a previously scheduled vacation to the beach she put in an offer. Talk about crazy, right!?! Yup, we moved a few miles south of our old neighborhood into the PERFECT home for us. It was a whirl wind deal of packing, moving, closing in just a few weeks. It was definitely the decision the Lord had in mind for us. We love our “pretty new house” (that's what I like to call it) and really enjoy the new ward too. We're officially in our own little Morrow Home. :) Loving the new neighborhood and still close to our old friends. Come and visit us!

Alicia, that's me. Crazy, wonderful and enjoying life to the fullest. Moving was definitely one of the highlights of the year. I finally have “my pretty room” which is the living room right when you walk in that has the piano and bookshelf and seating area. It's always clean and welcoming. The family room just off the kitchen is where the kiddos can play and we can lounge in front of the TV. Two living spaces is fantastic! I'm still watching my adorable nephews 3 days a week. Jumping through the hoops of full time Mommyhood and Wifey-land, enjoying times with my Honey Badgers (bestest friends) and trying to make the clock in life slow down. We had a blast on our recent trip with the Cowdell fam to Disneyland and little cruise to Mexico. We traveled to Utah this summer, the beach and a few camping trips. Thankfully, it's been a very blessed year.

We're thankfully healthy and happy, and only yell and fight when nobody is watching....I mean, never, we never have arguing or chaos in this house. One of the good things about writing a sappy letter like this is, it helps you take the time to remember what you're really grateful for and how good life is. Sure there's days when you just want to hide under the covers and sleep till Spring time. There's moments when changing diapers and picking up the same toys left out by the kiddos seems monotonous. When those darn dishes and laundry continue to appear even when I just did them. Yet, every night after the family's sleeping I try to take a moment and remember why I'm here. Why I fight to stay healthy and positive. Why I harp on my children about making good choices. Why I pray to my Father in Heaven. It's because He wants us to be happy and not just endure life, but enjoy this journey on Earth. He sent His Son here for us. To show us the way and atone for us. Keep on keeping on dear Loved ONES. He is mindful of you and loves you. Christ is the Reason for the Season.

Now go have some cookies and cocoa! You've had your daily reading dose for the Morning :)
Wishing you love and a very Merry Christmas,
Matt, Alicia, Lorenzo and Elsie
